Sitting by the window in her convent, Sister Anne noticed a shabbily dressed stranger leaning against a lamppost below.Quickly she wrote, "Don't despair, Sister Anne" on a piece of paper, wrapped a $10 bill in it and dropped it out the window.
The stranger picked it up and, with a puzzled expression and a tip of his hat, went off down the street.
The next day Sister Anne was told that a man was at the door, insisting on seeing her. She went down and found the stranger waiting. Without a word, he handed her a roll of bills.
"What's this?" she asked.
"That's the $60 bucks you won. Don't Despair paid five to one!"

SISTER ANNE原意是想帮这个衣衫褴褛的，给了他10个美金，让他不要绝望。
而这个人可能是个赌鬼，输得倾家荡产了，身无分文，正在绝望的边缘。突然从天而降10美金，他又拿去赌，这次又挣了50,来感谢SISTER ANNE。我想SISTER ANNE不是给钱给他赌的吧。

其实这个满好笑的阿， Sister Anne见到楼下那个男的穿的不是很好，就直接认定对方需要帮助。 其实对方根本不需要， 故意把Sister Anne给他的10元拿去压在了"Don't Despair"身上（赛马或赛狗的名字，国外赛马或赛狗都会取些很奇特的名字，例如Santa's little helper等等的）结果赢了5倍的赌金。他拿回来还给Sister Anne，顺便故意小小讽刺一下她。
