英文写作技巧之:八条英文写作守则 [云南外语网]

1.Organize your thoughts before writing: brainstorm、make an outline、etc. 下笔前整合思绪:脑力激荡,写出纲要等。

2.Write clearly. Be concise. Avoid wordiness. 写作清晰,务必精简,避免赘言。

3.Use good grammar and write complete sentences. 使用好的文法,写出完整句子。

4.Write simple sentences. Avoid a fancy style. 尝试简单句,避免花俏的句法。

5.Avoid slang、cliche and informal words. 避免俚语、陈腔滥调和非正式用字。

6.Avoid use of the first person (i.e. I/me/my) unless necessary to specific piece.除非必要,避免使用第一人称:如“我/我的”。

7.Writing naturally. Read it aloud. Does it sound natural? Does it flow? 自然挥洒,大声朗诵。整篇文章听起来自然吗?通顺吗?

8.Move logically from one idea to the next. Don't skip steps. 上下句意要合乎逻辑。别毫无章法乱跳。

1. There are some good reasons for...

这是一个用来分析原因的句型。我们看下面的例子:

2. My suggestions to deal with the problem are as follows. In the first place,... Secondly,... Finally, ...

这是一个提出建议的句型。我们看下面这段文字是如何使用这个句型的:

我对解决这个问题的建议如下。首先,迫在眉睫的是建立自然保护区。其次,有些濒临灭绝的珍稀野生动物应该收捕、人工喂养并繁殖。最后,对于捕猎珍稀野生动物的人必须严惩。

My suggestions to deal with the problem are as follows. In the first place, it is urgent to create nature reserves. Secondly, certain rare wild animals that are going to be extinct should be collected, fed and reproduced artificially. Finally, those who hunt them must be punished severely.

3. It is important (necessary, urgent, difficult, easy, expensive, desirable, advisable, convenient, comfortable) for sb. to do sth.

这是一个用来发表意见的句型。我们看看下面的例文:

人们希望建立更多的医院、购物中心、娱乐中心、电影院和其他公用设施来满足人民日益增长的需求。

It is desirable to build more hospitals, shopping centers, recreation centers, cinemas and other public facilities to meet the growing needs of people.

4. As a popular saying goes "Everything has two sides."

这是一个用来引起利弊分析的句型。看看下面的文段是怎么运用它的:

5. For example

举例阐述最常用的就是这个了。此外还有for instance, let's take... for example. 例文如下:

就拿汽车为例。汽车不仅污染城市空气,而且使城市拥挤不堪。此外,汽车造成许多交通事故。汽车所产生的噪音使居住在街道两旁的居民日夜不得安宁。

Let's take cars for example. They not only pollute the air in cities, but make them crowed. Furthermore, they cause a lot of traffic accidents. The noise made by cars disturbs the residents living on both sides of streets all day and night.

6. It is generally believed that... accepted

引证观点的常用句型。我们看看下面的例文是怎么使用这个句型的:

人们普遍认为,在发达国家人口增长的主要原因与其说是出生率的上升,还不如说是由于医疗保健的改善的使死亡率下降了。

It is generally believed that the chief reason for the increase in population in developed countries is not so much the rise in birth rates as the decline in death rates as a result of the improvement in medical care.

用问候语开始邮件内容非常重要,例如"Dear Lillian,"。根据你与收件人的关系亲近与否,你可能选择使用他们的姓氏来称呼他们而不是直呼其名,例如"Dear Mrs. Price,"。如果关系比较亲密的话,你就可以说,"Hi Kelly,"如果你和公司联系,而不是个人,你就可以写"To Whom It May Concern:"

感谢收件人
如果你在回复客户的询问,你应该以感谢开头。例如,如果有客户想了解你的公司,你就可以说,"Thank you for contacting ABC Company."如果此人已经回复过你的一封邮件了,那就一定要说,"Thank you for your prompt reply."或是"Thanks for getting back to me."如果你可以找到任何机会那一定要谢谢收信人。这样对方就会感到比较舒服,而且显得更礼貌。

表明你的意图
然后,如果是你主动写电子邮件给别人的话,那就不可能再写什么感谢的字句了。那就以你写此邮件的目的开头。例如,"I am writing to enquire about …"或是"I am writing in reference to …"在电子邮件开头澄清你的来意非常重要,这样才能更好的引出邮件的主要内容。记得要注意语法,拼写和标点符号,保持句子简短明了并句意前后一致。

结束语
在你结束邮件之前,再次感谢收信人并加上些礼貌语结尾。你可以"Thank you for your patience and cooperation."或"Thank you for your consideration."开始接着写,"If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let me know." 及"I look forward to hearing from you."

结束
最后是写上合适的结尾并附上你的名字。"Best regards," "Sincerely,"及"Thank you,"都很规范化。最好不要用"Best wishes,"或"Cheers,"类的词因为这些词都常用在非正式的私人邮件中。最后,在你发送邮件之前,最好再读一遍你的内容并检查其中有没有任何的拼写错误,这样就能保证你发出的是一封真正完美的邮件!

商务英语书信(Business or Commercial English Correspondence)是指交易时所使用的通信。在美国,常用Business writing,它包括书信、电报、电话、电传、报告书、明信片等。

英语和美语在书信体例方面存在着一定的差异,比如信头和称呼、书信格式、遣词、结尾客套语等均有所不同。一般来说,英国书信较为保守,许多英国人喜欢用老式书信体,用词较为正式刻板,而美国书信语言非常生气、有活力,格式也较为简便。因此当我们写信的对象是英国或其旧殖民地国家时,要使用标准式英语Queen's English,也就是Standard English;如果写信的对象是美国或美国势力范围的地区时,就要用美国英语。当然,英国式的语言文化近年来也有变化,但总体来说,两者间的差异是很明显的。

商业英文书信,一般都要求用打字机或电脑整齐地打印,左边各行开头垂直的,称为垂直式或齐头式(block style),美国常用这种格式;每段的第一个词缩进去,称为缩进式或锯齿式(indented style),英国常用此格式。垂直式的职务及签名都在左边的边栏界线,这种格式,在极度尊重工作效率的美国公司,已普遍采用。

正式的商业英语书信要在称呼的上方写上收信公司名称和地址或收信人的名字全称、职务及地址,称为信内地址(Inside address)。信内地址的写法也有垂直式和缩进式之分,垂直式或称美国式将各行并列,缩进式或称英国式将各行依次退缩。不过,笔者注意到,近来英国商业书信信内地址并未依次缩进,似乎与美国式相同。此外,在美国还流行一种普通收信人地址的写法,就是在书信的Inside Address中,把门牌号和街名都省略掉。

在英文书信中要使用敬语,最普遍的敬语是Mr, Mrs和Miss(用于未婚女性)。英国人常在男性的姓名之后用Esq. (Esquire的缩写),不过在商业上也在慢慢地改用Mr. 和Mmes. (Madam的复数形式),用于二个女士以上。Messrs(Mr的复数形式)用于二个以上的男人,或用于二个以上的男人组成的公司或团体。在英国式英文信里,Mr, Mrs, Messrs,均不加缩写句点,相反地趋向于进步自由的美语反而加缩写句点如Mr., Mrs., Messrs.。

在称呼方面,商业上最普遍的有Gentlemen(美国式)与Dear Sirs(英国式)二种,相当于我国的“敬启者”或“谨启者”。如果信是写给某个公司单位的,不是写给某个具体人的,美语用Gentlemen(复数形式),英语用Dear Sirs。如果对方公司只一人时,必须使用Sir/Dear Sir。称呼后一般要使用标点符号,英国式采用逗号(comma),美国式用冒号(colon)。

书信结尾客套语(complimentary close)有多种,相当于我国书信在结尾时使用的“敬礼”、“致敬”、“顺安”等句。最为典型的美国式写法是Sincerely和Best regards,典型的英国式表达有Yours sincerely(熟人或知道对方姓名),Best wishes, Kind regards 和Yours faithfully(不知姓名)。此外,英国式的客套语还有特别礼貌的格式,但除了特殊情况外,现在不再使用。

The date of ratification last obtained shall be taken as the effective date of the Contract. Both parties shall exert their utmost efforts to obtain the ratification within 60 days and shall advise the other party by telex and thereafter send a registered letter for confirmation.

3、本合同有效期从合同生效之日算起共10年,有效期满后,本合同自动失效。

The contract shall be valid for 10 years from the effective date of the contract, on the expiry of the validity term of contract, the contract shall automatically become null and void.

4、本合同期限届满时,双方发生的未了债权和债务不受合同期满的影响,债务人应向债权人继续偿付未了债务。

The outstanding (未了的)claims and liabilities(债权和债务) existing between both parties on the expiry of the validity of the contract shall not be influenced by the expiration of this contract. The debtor shall be kept liable until the debtor fully pays up his debts to the creditor.
