Packing and shipmentPacking is one of the most important ways to realize the value of commoditied. It can protect an d prettify commoditied and form an important process in the storage, transportation and sales of commodities.
1). Classifications of package
Package is divided into teo kins, acoording to their diffirent roles in the process of trade.
A). packing for transportation
Packing for transportation (or outer packing)mainly protects the products so that they are conveniently transported, loaded and unloaded, stored,counted and so on.
The followingare types of outer packing usually used in the foreign trade.
a.Corrugated boxes
Corrugated boxes are used in the pack of many export goods.They are resilient and provide more shock absorbency than wooden boxes. However, they can be easily opened and their contens pilfered. Corrugated boxes are most suitable as outer packing when carried within a metal container.
b. Plywood Boxes
Plywood Boxes are strong because of the framing and can withstand the pressure of heavy loads placed on the top of them.Also, the plywood walls are practically puncture-proof and theft-proof. Furthermore, the plywood box weighs less and is smaller than its slatted wooden counterpart. Another advantage of the plywood box is that it can be waterproofed at the joints and easily lined with moisture barriers.
c. Bags
Bags made of paper, cotton,plastic, or jute(fiber from the skin of certain plants),are a cheap form of container and are ideal for a wide variety of products such as cemen, flour, fertilizer, oil cakes, animal food, chemicals and many other products.
d. Barrels, Drums and Hogsheads
The type of container is usually made of wood, metal or plastic. They are used for the conveyance of liquid or greasy cargoes such as sausage.
e. Wooden Crates
Wooden crates are used mainly for heavy , bulky goods and may be opened or closed.The strong frame of the wooden crate provides protection from the pinching effects of slings. Often, the exporter will mark the crate’s center of gravity as well as the locations for the sling or grab-hook. Sometimes, items such as refrigerators may be packed in an open crate with a transparent plastic shroud.This enables the goods to be seen and promotes careful treatment.
f. Cartons
Cartons are now a very common way of packing with the developemnt of containerization and palletization, particularly in international distribution of type of consumer products.
g. Containers
Containers are a form of packing extensively used in international cargo transportation and logistics.
B). Sales packing
Sales packing (or inner packing) goes wih the products to enter retailing network and faces the consumers directly. This kind of package not only protects the products, but beautifies and publicizes the products. In contast with outer packing, there is inner packing(or immediate packing). It is not only designed as protection to reduce the risk of damage in teansit and prevent pilferage but also to aid marketing.Inner packing is now universally recognized as a decisive selling factor of household consumer goods and goods alike.Nowadays, transparent or window containers are often used.It is convenient for the customers to identify the contents whrn shopping, thus possibly concluding a transaction.
