According to my understanding,"therefore " is a word which functioned as a tone of the speaker or writer.Sometimes,this kind of words is meanless.You can directly miss it.
If so ,the whole sentence would be easy for you.
In English, some words can be delected because they just indicate the tone of the speaker or the attitude of writer.
