加拿大外贸
One of my friends asked how to write digital in English, and i didn't know either, so it costed me about 2 hours to learn this. Now i will share it with you.First: We will talk about fraction.
As we know, the form of a fraction is like a/b, a is numerator, and write it with cardinal numeral, b is denominator, and write it with ordinal number. I will provide some special examples.
proper fraction:
1/2=one-half.
1/3=one-third
2/3=two-thirds
1/4=one quarter
33/89=thirty-three over eighty-nine
improper fraction:
2 1/3 =two and one third
1 3/4 =one and three quarters
22/9=twenty-two over nine
decimals:
3.4=three point four
0.2=zero point two; nought point two
0.03=zero point zero three; nought point nought three
3.458=three point four,five,eight
403.08=four o three point o eight
power :
29= the ninth power of two; two to the ninth power
negative number:
-6=minus six
Okay, Now we will talk about operation
And it has four types ,+addition; -subtraction; x multiplication ;÷division
also, i will describe for some specific examples.
4+5=9 Four and(plus) five are(is, equals) nine
9-4=5 Nine minus four equals five
Four from nine leaves five
Nine less four is(are) five
Nine minus four is epual to five
Take four from nine and the remainder is five.
4x5=20 Four times five is (are) twenty
Four mutiplied by five is(gives, equals, makes) twenty
20÷5=4 Twenty divided by five is equal to (equals,gives,makes) four
Five into twenty goes four times
We alwasy say that we go to school 5 days every week, we have three dinners every day, so we will talk about every one time or above.
every other week= every two weeks (Here, means every two weeks, For example you go to school this week,and you will go there the thrid week next time)
every third week=every three weeks(Ya, you should pay attension to the cardinal numeral and ordinal number.)
Times. Another point.
A is three times the size(height,length,width) of B
A is three times as big (high,long,wide) as B
A is three times bigger( higher,longer,wider) than B
(time uses when above 3 times, 2 times use twice)
Date;
Year:
Read first one or two digit(s), then the last two.
897= (in) eight hundred and ninety-seven
1961=(in) nineteen sixty-one
607B,C= six o seven B,C
950A,D= nine fifty A,D
In the 1980s=the eighties(80's, 80s) of the twentieth(20th)
date
ordinal number , you must add a "the"before it,
1= on the first
31=on the thirty-first
December 28,1989 =December the twenty-eighth, nineteen eighty-nine (Hey, Dear, that's my birth day, Remember. LoL)
Time
5:00= five(o'clock)
5:12=twelve past five
8:30=half past eight
11:50= ten to twelve
8:35= twenty-five to nine
15 minutes= a quarter
45 minutes= three quarters
2:15= a quarter past two
8:00am Mar.8,1985=eight a.m March the eighth nineteen eighty-five
A simple but troublesome problem is the thousands upon thousands digit. and you should read it every three Decimals, then add its unit, it's simple.
606,608,616,618,666 six hundred and six trillion, six hundred and eight billion, six hundred and sixteen million, six hundred and eighteen thousand, six hundred and sixty-six.(annotations:12 digits called trillion,it means a million billion)
808,808,818,888 eight hundred and eight billion, eight hundred and eight milliom, eight hundred and eighteen thousand, eight hundred and eighty-eight.
13,772,971,763 thirteen billion, seven hundred and seventy-two million, night hundred and seventy-one thousand, seven hundred and sixty-three
Ya. Got it?
The method is reading it every three digits and its corresponding unit, From right to left is: thousand, million, billion, trillion.
It is said that, the native won't read it this stupid way. For tha last one.
13,772,971,763: one three, peroid, seven seven two, period, nine seven one, period, seven six three. Easy right?
Okay. that's all.
It costs me 2 hours and 12 minutes to finish the stupid article ~~o(>_<)o ~~
