GM, on the other hand, made me pay $1100 to repair an engine design flaw and subsequently join a class action to get just $400 back!

Several years ago I owned a Sienna, bought new. At 120 000 kms (20 000 kms out of warranty) the transmission went. I towed it to the dealership, all wound up, ready for a fight. They looked at it, said "this shouldn't have happened" and replaced it free of charge. 3 days later I had the van back with a brand new transmission. Toyota stands behind it's cars. Their motto ought to be: If the car breaks down the dealer will serve you his own head on a platter. Now I ask you, what kind of treatment do you think I would have received if it were a Ford, GM, or Chrysler?
