加拿大外贸

I saw the forum is soliciting articles about SOHO and the experience. It’s great and I’d like share some lines of words with you guys, also as a review and conclusion of my past days.

About myself
Well, I’ve been in SOHOing for nearly 14 months. I enjoy this kind of work style very much, not only I’ve making more money, have pretty much free time, but also I could see I am being myself and could preview the future that will be better and better.

Before I became a full-time SOHOER, I had been as a sales for five years and a half. I don’t say I did good job that time( actually not), but I thought I could handle most staffs myself ( In fact, I was wrong. It is quite different to be SOHO from to be a sales). Here, I have to point out, if you wanna start the business, first of all, you must make sure that you have the courage to face and handle with new staffs, the bottom line is, you will try your best. I’ll list more tips below under my personal views.

WHY SOHO?
I believe different people has different reasons to choose the road, but mainly it could be as follows:
1. Family reasons. Especially for women; when they have babies, they have to look after them, while under high-pressure society, they also have to make money to help their hundred balance the ends. Here, I have to say good words about them, they are really great.

2. Career Plan.  Well, many people have been working in factories and trading companies many years, while the rules of the factories and companies stop their personal development. So, they go out and start business of their own. And I am one of them.

Not matter what kind of situation you are, one thing is confirmed, that it is great to be a SOHOER, we are facing a new stage of life.

How to start SOHO? ( personal views)
1. Years working background of international trading business. So that you know what you should do.

2. One or two or more products that you know well. I mean” well” that refers to:
  a). the specification, materials, standard, functions as well as all the details.

  b). International marketing. Which places are the main market, the normal price, the main brands and importer/wholesales, retails  if possible--- it is not only plan to set up business with them, but also get more information of new arrivals, acceptable price, etc. Of course, it will be very helpful for you to extent your views.
  3. Money to buy some basic hardwares

    Working place. For green hand, normally work at home, but you should get support from your family and not frequently interrupted.

    Communication tools.  Computer, Tel, Fax, copy machine, etc.

4.  At least one factories with good relationship, who could offer good quality products with reasonable price, good delivery, payment after shipment.( I will put on more lines of my experience in the following)

5. An export agent with good reputation who could help you to receive the USD, arrange the exporting as well as the other services. If you have enough money, it is better to have an offshore company of your own, so that you may able to control the money transfer and keep the information of customers in secret.

6) website :  I believe it is the most important to have a proffetional website, good design, nice photos, good decriptions. I did not do a good job on this, but I paid speical attention on the keys words on the searching engine, such as google, yahoo, and have four main key words of my products at the first pages in google. In the past 14 months, I manage to get 45 inquiries and manage to set up business with three customers, one of them has given me reapter orders.

大概看了一下,能够明白楼主要表达的,没有感到特别生硬或拗口的地方。

well, it's a long story, you may say a lot on it, but we have to admit, it is the factory who brings us the profits, so that we have to pay great attention to find a good factory to support you, which is the half success of the business. It took me more than six months to realise it. At first, as usual, I was sticking to find customers, who are willing to buy the goods from me. Yep, It did meet several good customers at first, and sent samples to at least ten customers , but I did not get any feedbacks from them. Firsyly, I am not proffessional enough at that time( My SoHO products is new field for me); secondly, the samples I offered to customers are not good enough( it's a shame, I did not realise it at that time), they are just willing to offer me the stocks they have, which of course, failed the business.  When I realised it, I found another factory, who is far relationed; Lucky for me, he can offer better sample F.O.C, payment after delivery, and priority production of my orders. I got 1x40HQ order from a Brazil customer, 56000Sets, the leading time is normally 30 days, while he is able to help me finish it in 20 days. Here, I want to thanks his supporting, sincerely.

So I have to say, the best way to find the factory, is from your friends, relations who know the boss of the factory.
It should not be a very big one, but the quality of product and price should be reasonable.

只是练练手,呵呵,我写中文歪歪扭扭,不知所云,反而英文稍微有逻辑一些,即使表达差一些;就这么着,无论怎么样,想到哪写到哪,也算是回馈给论坛的。

1.google seaching.  I tried but never get any order via this methord, anyhow, I do find out many importer, wholesales, retailers, from whose website, I learnt tons of helpful information.

2. Website.  I mentioned above, everybody needs to pay specil attnetion on it, especially for the key words rank at the seaching engines.

3. Free B2B.  Put on the first line products with speccil design on it, with very small key words and detail description. I successfully to get a customer from
MIC, free member.

4. cooperate with factory.  If you have nice relationship with your factory, and they do not have foreign trade department of their own, sometimes they will share with you some customer information. Believe me it is possible, sometimes, the cards they share to you are very helpful, many of them used to have visited the factory.

Of course, if you have more funds, you may choose directly way, VIP of famuous b2b, takeing proffessional fairs etc.
Again, to be SOHO, I'd like to have your attention: have a good website.

Many friends is doubting what's the role that they should choose to be, personally, I think it is better choose to be as a factory who is your main supportor. The head title of website as well as the offshore company name after it. I have my reasons:
1.Customers like to cooperate with the factory directly.
2.It's better to handle with the customers' visiting
3.Better to let the customer trust on and tranfer the money of the first order; it sounds you are cheating, but you have to, it is possible that you fail business at last step, because the account you offered to the customers is not your company's and they refuse to do such risking business.

I have the experience, and believe this way is more helpful for the new SOHOERS.

The customer is from my web. I still remember it vividly.
It is one evening of April,2011. He visited my webiste, looking through more than 100pages(products) and then send me an inqury.
He asked me to quote the price of one  series products in the web, at the last of the inquiry, he ended up with his website link.
I visited his website and found he is a proessional wholesales of this kind of products, and I replied him with reasonable price in ten minutes.( I have the offer sheets of all the products ready). He responsed very fast and ordered 3 samples and His TNT account.

I sent out the samples next day and he received them in the next fouth day and told me he was satisfied with one of them and would like to order 1000PCS. He paid me the next day and share with me the bank slip....

Well, my first order is very smooth, as good as I could imagine, here I learnt two tips:
1. reply in time.
2.Know better about the customer.

follows after canton fair


long time has not come here. I always believe that it is a here fairland for we sohoers communication and learning, where we get tips to be a better sohoer.

it's been quite tough for past days, for the canton fair, but you have to take it, since it is where we sales of foreign trade start the way to  success. Luckily, the fruits is quite lovely of this edition. my partner and i get more than 150pcs business cards, and many
customers at hand were sitting down, and talking with the details of their requirement, and we offered many samples of new products for their self-feeling-test at the hotel when they go showering. well, one or two customers were almost confirmed a trial order directly. it was tired, but I felt amazing, I was at mood in those 5 days.

I got home on Oct.20, 1:00 in the afternoon, tired and exhasted and went to sleep very fast. it was around around 4 colck i was awaken by the call, from a strange number. I picked up and it was from from a customer we met in the fair.  I have deep impression of him,vividly. he talked more than 30mins at the fair, and he shared with me his plan and shows his interests to cooperate with me. he shown me a sample and wondered to placed me 1x40HQ order together with another model I recommended him. I quickly got the signs after he finsihed introucing himself, the opportunity was coming. he told me he would visit our factory on Saturday and was staying at Ningbo right now.

Of course, i insisted going and picking him up at the hotel, he has a friend and partner from Taiwan, who was born in USA and staying in US for 25 years and taiwan for 20 years. he is a kind man, same as the customer. It takes me more than 2 hours to find the hotel(i was an idiot of the sense of direction) and we set off for the factory on 2:00 and we got to factory 3:30pm, we talked a lot on the way, about the life in China,taiwan, brazil and USA, it's difference and same points, as well as family, marriage and kids.
well, I felt I was talking with friends, instead of customer. and it WAS  a good sign.

Acutally, it was. Customer looked around factory and looked how is the products asselmbled and test it. he felt good. we confirmed the price and the 1x40hq trial order at the meeting room. At that time, I realise he is a big fish.

Anyway, I would take it the way, with game rull. God bless me, that everything goes well in the following. and I have tips for you guys which i realised in the past days.
1. sincere and honest to the customer.
2. get nice relationship with the factory.
3. to be a good english speaker.
4. have a car of your own.
