Thomas Garrett, R-Louisa, said late Thursday that he is asking the U.S. Department of Citizenship and Immigration to investigate the federal EB-5 visa program used by the electric car company founded by Democratic candidate for governor Terry McAuliffe.Garrett cited news reports that Green Tech Automotive used the EB-5 program and 2009 emails from Virginia Economic Development Program under former-Gov. Tim Kaine that expressed concerns about Green Tech using EB-5 visas. EB-5 visas are for foreign investors in U.S. companies. In a 2009 email obtained by The Washington Post, Liz Povar, vice president for business expansions at VEDP characterized Green Tech's use of the visas as a financing tool as a "visa-for-sale scheme with potential national security implications."McAuliffe campaign spokesman Josh Schwerin said: ""Ken Cuccinelli and his allies are so desperate to avoid talking about his ongoing scandal with Star Scientific that they are attacking a program supported by every U.S. Senator, all but three members of the U.S. House, the McDonnell administration and Fortune 500 companies like Hilton and Marriott,"
