Should I buy organic milk for my baby to avoid exposing him to a growth hormone? The milk aisles are full of organic milk. It's a popular product, partly because the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows cows in that country to be treated with a growth hormone to increase milk production. Whole milk in the US contains the growth hormone. In an effort to avoid exposing their babies, many American parents buy organic milk. Health Canada does not allow dairy cows to be given growth hormone so that's not a concern here. Neither country allows milk containing antibiotics. Organic milk may still be your choice of milks for your baby but here in Canada you don't need to buy organic milk in order to avoid giving your baby growth hormones.

Injection of bovine growth hormone every third day improved milk production as much as the same total dose given daily.
