This involves the planning, design, integration, test and documentation of a complete system level platform used to test the prototype CMOS Integrated Circuits and FW/SW. The System Validation Design Engineer works in parallel with the IC and FW/SW designers to design an entire system, involving highly integrated FPGA's with VHDL/Verilog coding, high speed digital/analog board designs, script coding, and software driver/OS system level integration. Using these systems, together with the latest communication analyzers and test equipment, the System Validation Design Engineer will work as part of a team to develop and execute a Feature Test Plan that fully exercises the prototype IC and associated FW/SW. Working at the system level, the System Validation Design Engineer will be involved with existing and newly drafted standards including Serial Attached SCSI, Serial ATA, PCIe and other related standards commonly used in Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN).Responsibilities:As a System Validation Design Engineer, you will be involved in designing, building and debugging system level HW, FW and SW to test leading edge prototype IC's in their intended applications. Design work includes:• C/C++ FW development and application level Tcl/Tk scripting for automated control of the system• High speed board design using company's and third party IC's, involving both analog and digital circuitry• Highly integrated programmable chip level designs - FPGA design and VHDL coding required to enable device pre-proto FPGA emulation testing• You will work as part of a team to develop, execute and document a series of Feature Tests that will fully validate the operation of the prototype SOC as part of the overall system. These feature tests will exercise the various functional blocks of a prototype IC, associated FW/SW and tests the system level circuitry to performance criteria and to industry standards.• Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems in embedded multi-core real-time systems.• Effectively present technical information to small teams of engineers.Qualifications:• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering• 4 to 8 years of relevant work experience• Thorough knowledge of multi-core embedded systems, computer architectures, SOC, RTOS, and Communication protocols• Knowledge of Tcl/Tk scripting language• Extensive experience in complex digital systems problem solving, testing and debugging• Demonstrated excellent problem solving skills• Thorough knowledge of circuit theory and high speed signal fundamentals • Experience working with EDA tools for schematic capture and signal integrity analysis• VHDL, Verilog, Synplicity, Cadence simulation tools, and FPGA design/place route experiences• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision under tight schedule• Strong communication skills, including verbal, presentation, and documentation• Excellent teamwork skills• Ability to quickly learn new technologiesDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:• Extensive knowledge of MIPS architecture and firmware programming• Extensive experience in C and/or assembly language programming • Experience implementing high speed system interconnects and associated logic• Detailed working knowledge of ASIC emulation in FPGA environment• Detailed working knowledge of SAS specification (capturing and analyzing traces)• Experience with RAID/HBA and SAS/SATA/SCSI architectures• Data Storage Systems ? experience in complex digital systems testing, problem solving, and debugging
