Immigration Voice is delighted with the DHS announcement of the final rule allowing spouses of certain H1-B visa holders to obtain work authorization. According to the regulatory change announced today, the spouses of skilled immigrants with approved immigrant petition, or, H-4 visa holder spouses of workers on H-1B visa for over 6 years in the U.S., will be eligible to apply for work authorization. This rule is expected to go into effect in 90 days.We applaud President Obama for making this regulatory change and we very much hope that this fix is the first in the series of more regulatory changes that will be implemented soon. Immigration Voice is grateful to President Obama and his administration for Executive Action on Immigration to address the severe quality of life issues faced by hundreds and thousands of families, including this fix to allow spousal work authorization for certain H-1B visa holders.As a lot of IV members know first-hand, this fix will alleviate severe quality of life issues faced by the spouses and their families. This simple technical fix is expected to provide relief to more than 180,000 families in the first year of its implementation.As we celebrate this regulatory change, we continue to implore Congress to live up to its promise to address our nation's priority issues, and fix the broken immigration system because only Congress can pass the immigration reforms.At this happy moment, our hope is that for folks sitting on the sidelines, you will see this as one more example of the strength of people's voice. That in a democratic system, the only way for people to seek larger goals is by enduring the process, cohere and stick together in the face of difficulties. We hope that this regulatory change will encourage you to get more actively involved, to speak-up and to lend your stories for highlighting the broken immigration system, so we can all do our share in seeking permanent fixes to these long standing problems. Because, you do not find what you do not seek. So join us in finding permanent solutions.
